10-acre natural habitat
This abandoned railroad right-of-way near Saunemin Illinois shelters a remnant of the tall-grass prairie habitat which once covered central Illinois. The foundation of the regional rich farmland, the prairie habitat hosted a diversity of plant and associated wildlife species, which persist in these undisturbed areas. Sheltered by Prairie Lands Foundation, educational opportunity and stewardship activities are central to public access as the site undergoes expanded restoration practices.
